Leave a Bequest

As Australians the ocean brings us so much pleasure — from childhood memories of salty toes dipped in the waves, to adult adventures of whale watching, sailing or SCUBA diving, to quiet times strolling the shore, contemplating the world around us.

Your gift will leave a legacy that contributes to the world you want to give your grandchildren, the oceans you want them to know, and the marine life you want them to love.

Your ocean legacy — a gift that reflects your values and passion for our ocean

A bequest to Australia’s oceans is a gift you write into your Will after your loved ones have been provided for. Whether you’re a new supporter who has recently discovered the Australian Marine Conservation Society or someone who has been with us since the early days of the Queensland or Australian Littoral Society, your gift will leave a legacy reflecting your life’s passion and the world you want to leave for future generations.

Naming AMCS as a beneficiary

To be sure your gift will reach AMCS, there are a number of points that must be carefully checked:

  • please be sure to use our full name (AUSTRALIAN MARINE CONSERVATION SOCIETY INCORPORATED) and ABN (53 409 718 351);
  • please consult a solicitor or the Office of the Public Trust to be sure that your Will complies with the legal requirements*;
  • you need to decide which type of bequest you will give — a specified gift, a percentage of your estate, a residual bequest or your whole estate — and ensure that the wording chosen reflects your wishes clearly.

Wording suggestions

Your solicitor can recommend appropriate wording. If necessary, ask your solicitor to contact us to discuss your wishes. An example of legally acceptable wording that can be included in your Will is:

I give:

  • the rest and residue of my estate (or)
  • ___ % of my estate (or)
  • the sum of $___

to the AUSTRALIAN MARINE CONSERVATION SOCIETY INCORPORATED (ABN # 53 409 718 351) for its general purposes free of all duties and taxes payable upon or in consequence of my death, and the official receipt of the Treasurer or other authorised person shall be a complete and sufficient discharge for the Executor.

* If you don’t leave a Will or if your Will isn’t valid, your estate will be allocated according to state laws and if there is no Next of Kin, your estate will go to the government.
